I'm sad to learn that Darrell has passed. We first met at J Miller Jr. High and immediately hit it off. Basketball was his sport starting in Jr. High and McClatchy varsity. He was a heck of an athlete and although only about 5'7", he could jump to the rim. He played on an excellent team that won the Metro League championship   - Ed Sullivan, Mike Syas, Bill Irons, Bill Kelso, Charles Grigsby, and others whose names I can't think of right now.  I covered them when I was writing for the school paper. We continued our friendship through Sac City where for some reason he didn't play ball, although the coach tried to get him out. We played on some park & rec teams together.  I remember seeing him at parties and hanging out and laughing a lot. We lost touch after I moved to attend SF State. The last time I saw Darrell was in the mid-80s (?) when I visited my parents in Sac and also went to see an Asian American youth basketball tournament and ran into Darrell who was there to see his son play. We sat together, watched the game, and reminisced. After 20 years, we didn't miss a beat. It was as if no time had expired. RIP Darrell. I value the memories.
